Former partner in the litigation area at one of the most prestigious full-service Brazilian law firms, Daniel Kaufman Schaffer holds a Master’s (LL.M) in Litigation and Dispute Resolution, graduating with the highest honors from the University College London (UCL), a graduate degree in Infrastructure Law from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation Law School in São Paulo, and a specialization in Administrative Law, also from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation Law School in São Paulo.

Relevant Experience

Advised one of the largest mining companies in the world in arbitration dealing with alleged informational failures in the capital markets, which involve an inestimable value.

Represents Brazilian companies in multi-billion dollar corporate disputes at the administrative, judicial, and arbitration levels arising from Operation Carwash, including in regard to the liability of administrators and controllers.

Represents a multinational company in annulment actions, corruption actions, public interest civil actions, indemnification actions, and civil investigations related to the so-called “Metro Cartel,” involving an inestimable value.

Advises one of the world’s largest state-owned companies in the oil industry in arbitration related to the sale and purchase of oil field exploration rights in Brazil, with an approximate amount of USD 850 million.

Represents important national and foreign players in administrative, judicial, and arbitration lawsuits and disputes involving private and administrative contracts related to the subway, railway, road, public lighting, public transport, aviation, pharmacological, and naval sectors, including the São Francisco River transposition project, as well as representation of such players in the first Dispute Board in Brazil involving Federal Government entities.
