Mariana Aguieiras Cuozzo

Summary

Mariana holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International and Comparative Law from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, in which she obtained a Dean’s Tuition Fellowship and was ranked in the top 10% of her class. In her LL.M., she carried out a research project on recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards by US courts, which received a grade of A.

Mariana holds a Master’s Degree in Litigation and Arbitration from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation in Rio de Janeiro (FGV Direito Rio) and has a Bachelor of Laws from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).

She also participated in several training courses, such as the Specialized Summer Program in commercial arbitration at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC.

Background

Mariana has focused her entire practice on arbitration and complex litigation. She has extensive experience in multidisciplinary disputes involving a broad array of industries (such as mining, construction, oil and gas, among others). In addition to having worked as an associate at major law firms in Brazil, she has acted as the secretary general in a renowned arbitration center in Rio de Janeiro.

She also worked as a visiting attorney at the law firm of Herbert Smith Freehills in New York, in the international arbitration practice group, and interned at the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), also in New York.

Mariana is the author of several articles published in the most renowned arbitration journals in Brazil (one of which was listed in the bibliography selected by the Superior Court of Justice, “30 years of practice of the Superior Court of Justice”), and also wrote an article published in the World Arbitration and Mediation Review, in the US. In addition, she is part of Centro Brasileiro de Mediação e Arbitragem – CBMA’s and Centro de Arbitragem e Mediação da Amcham Brasil’s lists of arbitrators.
